Famed photography duo Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin have collaborated with cult label Frame Denim to design their interpretation of the perfect pair of jeans. In an interview with Style.com, which you can read here, the duo explained:

“We’ve done men’s and women’s [denim]—the Inez and the Vinoodh—and we worked with Frame’s team to incorporate our favorite elements of jeans we own ourselves,” offered van Lamsweerde from her New York studio. “The Inez is my idea of the perfect, classic jean. It’s slightly higher in the back of the waist and lower in the front because I love low-waisted jeans, but every time I’m shooting, I sit down on a box to get a different angle, and they fall so low. Everyone’s behind you, and you’re completely exposed!” They’re skinny, but not too skinny (plenty of room at the knee), and they boast a boyish cut. “It’s flattering on a lot of body shapes, though,” insisted van Lamsweerde. “We’ve tried it on everyone from Freja Beha Ericksen to Lara Stone, and it works.” Matadin, meanwhile, focused on achieving the ideal length for his style, as well as a flawless fit in the back. “It’s the same for girls and guys,” said van Lamsweerde. “The butt has to be amazing.”

I bought two pairs of the Inez mid-rise straight-leg jeans on Net-a-porter to give them a try. The Star Black (semi-faded black priced at $220) and the Lucy Blue (medium blue, $240). I wasn’t sure about giving them a try at first as I find their regular denim for $185 perfectly great, but decided to give in due to my curiosity.

The first thing I noticed is that they are extremely long, quite a bit longer in the leg than your average jeans. While the Lucy Blue one has the perfect color, the denim is slightly stiffer and thicker than I prefer. The Star Black is the perfect slightly washed-out black in buttery soft denim, and I really do mean soft. You won’t want to take them off! The pockets in the back are slightly lower than what I usually like, but they do make a nice perky derriere. The slightly off belt loop placed in the back gives the Inez jeans a quirky, unusual design element.

The fit overall is more of straight leg and has a tiny tiny bit more of a relaxed fit compared to the super-tight skinnies that we have gotten used to. The jeans with their updated fit & cut definitely give off a cool girl vibe. Freja was the perfect choice of model to portray that. They are going to be the jeans you have been searching for if you are 5’10”. If you are shorter, the leg length plus the slightly lower pocket will compress your lower frame, not that you can’t still wear this pair if you are OK with that.

The jeans are available on www.net-a-porter.com & www.barneys.com.
