Known for her undeniable beauty in Sports Illustrated, Jessica Gomes is the new ambassador for Australian luxury retailer David Jones. She seems funny, charming, and has a great sense of style, which makes her the ultimate fit for her new role, but before she made her mark with DJ’s, I couldn’t help but notice her look on the red carpet for the Oscar’s Vanity Fair party earlier this year. Her beautiful white dress, her Kate Moss “undone” hair, and a beautiful sophisticated red lip together created the perfect easygoing but glam look that never fails.
Styled by my friend Sophia Banks, Jessica wowed in a J’Aton dress, Jimmy Choo shoes, Amanda Pearl clutch, and a Kimberly McDonald ring. As for her makeup, I was super excited to find the exact shade used to create her beautiful, matte, bold hued lips. It’s actually a lip pencil: Rococo Red by Napoleon Perdis.
I’ve found the perfect match for the glossy, orangey-er version of red by Chanel, which is a favorite of Miranda Kerr’s, but failed to find THE red. I was hoping Rococo Red would turn out to be what I was looking for. And yes, it was! I really like the matte, red color, which suits my yellowish/olive complexion well, but I think it’s one of those colors that anyone can wear since a blue-red is easy for most women to pull off.
Bec, the make-up artist from Napoleon Perdis’ team, explained Jessica’s look beautifully:
“Jess really wanted to make her lips the focus, so we decided to create a very fresh and modern matte red lip to complement her white gown. To prevent the look from stepping into that ‘Old Hollywood’ vicinity, I kept the eye relatively clean. No obvious liner, just some contouring of the sockets with the Ultimate Nude Palette and lots of mascara. Jess has amazing skin, so I really emphasized that with some soft contours and highlights. The brow was polished and defined but not too much of a statement.
I really wanted to contrast the luminous, glowing complexion with the velvet matte textures of the eye and lip. The overall look was fresh, clean, but with a powerful red lip to anchor it all together.”
